Five person, including a one-year-old child, died in a fire that destroyed five homes in Pasig City Wednesday evening.

The blaze at Barangay Buting, Pasig City was raised only on a first alarm by 10:56 pm, placed under control at 11:18 pm, and declared fire out at 11:58 pm.

In a phone interview with the Daily Manila Shimbun, Senior Fire Officer 1 Kristian Pagulayan said the bodies of the 39-year-old woman and her two children, including a one-year-old child, were recovered in a three-story house.

"The fire razed the third floor as it is made of light materials. The bodies of a mother and an 11-year-old female were recovered on the second floor. Sadly, the one-year-old child fell on their ground floor," Pagulayan said.

A 45-year-old man with his 15-year-old boy also died, and bodies were retrieved in the comfort room of a four-story house.

"A child went back to their home to wake his father up due to the incident. However, none of them escaped the house as they hid in their comfort room," she said.

Three children were rescued by the authorities who had difficulty breathing during the incident and treated with first aid by the emergency medical services unit of the Pasig City fire.

Eleven families or 39 individuals were affected by the blaze. Meanwhile, seven families or 40 individuals went out of their houses due to power interruption in the area.

The incident lasted around an hour and damage to properties of the blaze was estimated at P600,000. Kate Christian Ravelo/DMS
