A fisherman died while six others were missing after their boat capsized due to the bad sea condition brought by Super Typhoon ''Nando'', the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Tuesday.
Based on an initial report, the fishing boat "Jobhenz" with 13 fishermen on board capsized at the coastal waters of Barangay San Vicente, Sta. Ana, Cagayan on Monday.
Due to bad weather, the fishing boat anchored in the area for shelter when it was hit by successive waves and battered by strong winds causing the vessel to tilt and capsize.
During the search, fishermen were rescued while one body was retrieved by authorities.
The Coast Guard Station (CGS) Santa Ana continues its search and rescue efforts to the six missing fishermen by deploying additional search and rescue teams including PCG Special Operation Group divers and Coast Guard Medical Team.
A high-speed response craft and several rubber boats were sent in lieu of the search and rescue operations.
The PCG also reported the recovery of a 67-year-old male at the shoreline of Barangay Sta Rita Sur, Agoo, La Union.
The victim slipped and fell into a river on Monday but the search was temporarily suspended due to limited visibility and unstable weather. His body was recovered by people in Barangay San Isidro the following day.
