President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that the government will not allocate fresh funds for flood control projects in the proposed 2026 national budget, but is committed to addressing flood problems in many parts of the country.

In the second part of the fourth episode of his BBM Podcast aired on Monday, the President emphasized that the P350 billion already earmarked in 2025 remains sufficient and must first be fully utilized.

Marcos explained that the decision was made following a comprehensive review of the 2026 budget proposal, which showed that the flood control projects under the 2025 appropriations have yet to be completed or disbursed.

“We already are seeing na lahat ng flood control project na dapat ilalagay sa 2026 na budget, hindi na siguro kailangan. So, there will be no budget for 2026 for flood control. Dahil mayroon naman P350 billion for 2025 na hindi pa nauubos talaga,” Marcos said.

The Chief Executive assured the public that ongoing projects will continue, but emphasized that funds must be spent properly with strict monitoring of design, implementation, and quality. He also reiterated that contractors with defective or substandard outputs must correct their work at their own expense, not at the cost of taxpayers.

Marcos underscored that the government’s priority is to restore integrity in infrastructure spending, prevent misuse of public funds, and ensure that projects deliver genuine benefits to communities. Presidential News Desk
