Malacanang said the call of Vice President Sara Duterte to impeach President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for allowing the arrest of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte last March, is baseless.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Marcos administration is ready to defend the legality of the government's cooperation with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for the arrest before the Ombudsman.
In a press briefing last Wednesday, Castro belied the claim of the vice president that with the rest, Marcos allowed a foreign entity to interfere with the country's sovereignty.
"The opinion coming from the Vice President has no source, no basis," Castro said in Filipino. "What the government did was not a surrender of sovereignty but rather a surrender of an accused," Castro added.
Castro said the former president was considered asuspect of crimes against humanity which was filed by Filipinos before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Former President Duterte has been detained since mid-March at the Netherlands. DMS
