Three people were killed while 17 were injured after a private vehicle rammed into Good Friday procession in Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City.

In a press conference, Bacolod City Police Office chief Col.Joeresty Coronica said that around 7:20 pm Friday, a red Toyota Innova driven by an Indian national drove into a church procession on Granada-Alangilan Road, Purok 20, Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City.

The vehicle crashed into an overtaking tricycle, slamming the tricycle towards a police vehicle escorting the procession.

The driver of the tricycle, Jonelo Solan, Sr., a lay minister, was declared dead on the spot, while the executive officer of Barangay Alangilan, Gilven Tabique, who was back riding on the tricycle was declared dead on arrival in the hospital.

The third victim, Daynah Plohinog, a college student, died in the hospital on Saturday morning.

Initial investigation showed that the tricycle was returning to Barangay Alangilan carrying one of the procession participants who had passed out, overtaking the police escort vehicle.

The tricycle was smashed upon impact and hit the left bumper of the police vehicle. The private vehicle also crashed into a multi-cab vehicle that was part of the religious procession. Yzabela Velez-White/DMS
