Fifteen persons, including a four-year-old boy and nine-year-old girl, died from drowning during the Holy Week, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Saturday.
These arose from 18 cases reported by police since April 16. Four cases each were reported in Central Luzon and Calabarzon followed by Bicol with three.
Two were injured while one was unharmed. Nine victims were adults while the rest are minors.
The boy drowned at a private resort in Barangay Poblacion in San Nicolas, Batangas on Friday night. He was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.
The girl was at the Blue Lagoon Prinsa River in Cavite with relatives when she was swept into deeper waters at around 6 pm Wednesday, police said.
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil urged people, especially parents, to guard their children when going to beaches, rivers and other swimming areas. DMS
