MANILA ? A ranking leader of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on Saturday blamed the lack of political will of Philippine President Benigno Aquino III’s administration for the problems hounding the Bangsamoro Basic Law, which is on the brink of not being passed before Congress adjourns on February 5.

In an interview over ANC, MILF First Vice Chairman Ghazali Jaafar said: “This administration lacks the political will. Somebody told me about the weakness or lack of leadership of OPAPP (Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process).”

Jaafar said the OPAPP, based on his own sources, did not exert enough effort to convince lawmakers.

Deliberations on the bill were going smoothly at the House of Representatives and the Senate until the massacre of 44 police commandos in a covert operation against wanted terrorists in Mamasapano, Maguindanao in January 2015. Emmanuel Tupas/DMS
