Marcos says gov't won't tolerate China's action vs fishermen

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the government will not tolerate China's action against Filipino fishermen at Scarborough Shoal, which he said remains part of the Philippines' maritime territory.

In his video blog on his social media page during the weekend, the chief executive said: '' Don't block us in our territory. We'll really going to fight for that."

He reiterated the government will not concede any inch to China, which claims almost the entire South China Sea (SCS) despite a decision of the 2016 international arbitral court ruling.

"We did not yield. We continue to protect the sovereignty of the Republic. We continue to defend the territory of the Republic. And we continue to protect and defend the people of the Republic," Marcos said.

On June 20, a Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessel fired its water cannon at a Philippine ship, BRP Datu Matanam Tradapit, which is delivering essential supplies to Filipino fishermen.

The National Maritime Council (NMC) condemned the incident, which it said is a a violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Arbitral ruling.

"We call on China to cease unlawful actions, act with restraint, and adhere to international law to maintain regional peace and stability," NMC said in a statement issued last Sunday. DMS
