Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon announced the indefinite suspension of road reblocking nationwide.
In a press conference on Friday, Dizon emphasized the decades of corruption under road reblocking projects which prompted the suspension.
Dizon said since he was a child he had heard that many people were getting angry whenever there were reblocking activities on the roads that still look fine.
"They make money from destroying the roads and they also make money from rebuilding it again," he said.
"So effective now I will be suspending all re-blocking activities and I will create a new department order on reblocking," he added.
Dizon said the new department order will be issued to ensure transparency in all road reblocking activities.
He noted that the agency will also conduct an investigation on road reblocking and assure that those who will be found guilty of illegal activities will be charged.
Dizon also encouraged the public to report to the agency any road reblocking activities that they will notice in their community following his suspension order. Robina Asido/DMS
