At least 27 million students attend the first day of the 2025-2026 school year which is the first time in years that the opening of classes returned to June.

Parents only submitted their child's birth certificate only once for the entire K-12 program, one of the new ways the Department of Education implemented to reduce long lines during enrollment.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited Epifanio de los Santos Elementary School. He outlined several improvements the government will do to improve learning.

Marcos said only 60 percent of schools have internet service. ''That is very low. The problem is really the lack of electricity. So, we will fix that slowly so we will see that everything will be 100 percent,'' he said.

Education Secretary Secretary Sonny Angara said they proposed a public-private partnership which will involve a loan payable in 10 years for the department can build over 100,000 classrooms.

''Probably by next year, we can start with the construction,'' he said. The department at present can build 3,000 to 5,000 classrooms every year.

Marcos said the government will launch the expanded feeding program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development for school children. DMS
