President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said that if public servants are not helping his administration achieve its goals, it would be better for them to step out of the way.
In a podcast with broadcast journalist Cheryl Cosim, Marcos said that his governance was 'not about friendship or love for each other, but about public service'.
"For me, this is work. If you’re not helping, get out of the way. If you’re not going to support us, then just step aside. Do whatever you want, but let us do our job. That’s always been my attitude,” Marcos said.
If getting out of the way meant firing, floating status, or transferred to another part of the government, Marcos said those hindering progress should just get out of the way for him to do his job, regardless if they're his friends.
“We have to be very, very strict. Look, even if you’re my friend, even if I care about you, if you’re not doing your job, that’s a problem. This isn’t about our friendship or how much we care about each other?this is about serving the people,' Marcos added.
Marcos also revealed receiving false accomplishment reports from people in his administration, urging him to go out and visit provinces, markets, and train stations to better understand the daily struggles of Filipinos.
"These fools are taking me for a ride. That’s when you realize, these people aren’t reliable, so we need to find someone else. That’s why it’s still important to go and see things for yourself," Marcos said.
Marcos previously ordered on May 22 for all members of his cabinet to submit courtesy resignations, triggering two resignations from his Cabinet. Velle White/DMS
