A low pressure area, which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on June 6, has a medium chance of being a typhoon in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported Sunday.

In a public weather broadcast, Pagasa Weather Specialist Veronica Torres said the low pressure area was located 215 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora. She added that the probability of the LPA becoming a typhoon might increase on Tuesday.

Rains that hit Metro Manila Saturday night and early Sunday morning, prompting Pagasa to declare two rainfall alerts, were caused by the southwest monsoon. Rains are forecast in Metro Manila on Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon.

Based on Weather Advisory No. 11, the low pressure area and the southwest monsoon will cause rains in parts of the country until Wednesday.

The three-day heavy rainfall outlook said the low pressure area will bring 50 to 100 millimeters (mm) of rainfall to Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur from Monday afternoon to Tuesday Afternoon, and Pangasinan from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday Afternoon

Due to the southwest monsoon, 50 to 100 mm of rain will fall on Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan, and Antique from Sunday to Tuesday afternoon.

From Monday to Wednesday afternoon, 50 to 100 mm rainfall will also occur in Guimaras.

Occidental Mindoro may experience 50 to 100 mm of rainfall from Sunday to Monday afternoon but may increase to 100 to 200 mm from Monday to Wednesday afternoon.

From Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon, Zambales will also experience 100 to 200 mm rainfall, while 50 to 100 mm rainfall may downpour in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bataan, Bulacan Pampanga, and the rest of Mimaropa and Bicol region. Kate Christian Ravelo/DMS
