The rehabilitation of Metro Manila's main highway, the 23.8-kilometer Epifanio delos Santos Avenue also known as Edsa, is expected to begin around June after being postponed for the third time.
"There's no exact date yet, but the target is the middle of June", Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon told reporters during the inspection of the Edsa busway stations on Tuesday.
The Edsa rehabilitation was supposed to be scheduled first during Holy Week and was later on moved after the 2025 midterm polls in May.
Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan told The Big Story on Monday night said that the Edsa rehabilitation is expected "some time in late June".
"I think as soon as we are able to disseminate all the information necessary for our motorists using Edsa then I think some time in late June we might be able to start already the rehabilitation work along Edsa", Bonoan added.
Bonoan said that one of the challenges in the rehabilitation " would be actually on sections where there are four lanes because we have to occupy at least, I think about two lanes, during construction including that we still have to continue to provide exclusive lanes for the buses".
"We just completed our meeting with the MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to finalize actually the traffic management scheme before we start the rehabilitation of EDSA and we have come up with some agreement particularly in the sections, particular sections where the lanes are limited because along Edsa there are still just four lanes available for motorist actually",Bonoan said.
"We are just going to have another meeting actually and finalize everything for dissemination on the traffic management scheme that will be adapted to our motoring public", Bonoan added. Marie Manalili/DMS
