Palace welcomes ''legitimate oppositionist'', vows to fight ''obstructionists''

Palace welcomes the "legitimate oppositionist" and vows to fight "obstructionists" as election results show that five administration's senatorial bets failed to enter the winning circle.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said although President Ferdinand Marcos Jr is calling newly elected officials to work together to address the needs of the people, the administration also welcomes the presence of legitimate oppositionists.

"The administration expects the presence of the legitimate oppositionists but will fight against the obstructionists who hide in the name of oppositionists, obstructionists who only fight for their own interest," she said.

"The legitimate oppositionists fight for the country, for the interest of the people; the obstructionists will not do anything but to dishonor other people and criticize the activities of the government while advancing their own interest," she added.

After the election day, Vice President Sara Duterte invited all the citizens to join them in "building a powerful and principled opposition" noting that the result of the midterm poll is not what their team had hoped for.

"We will continue to hold the government accountable, advocate for the issues that matter, and work tirelessly to serve as a strong and constructive opposition," she said.

"This is not the end, it’s a renewed beginning. We invite all citizens, regardless of background or past affiliation, to join us in building a powerful and principled opposition. Together, we can shape a future that is fair, inclusive, and just. Stand with us," she added.

Castro assures that the government will immediately address and fight the fake news that might be initiated by the obstructionists.

"If they spread fake news, any baseless statements or information that will destroy the government, we will immediately address this," she said. Robina Asido/DMS
