More than 2,000 Comelec gun ban violators arrested

Over 2,000 individuals were arrested due to gun ban violations recorded since the start of the election campaign early this year.

Based on the data from the National Election Monitoring Action Center, a total of 2,787 suspects were arrested from January 12 to May 1, 2025.

It shows that 2,668 of the arrested were civilians, 19 from Philippine National Police, 16 are members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and 12 others are foreign nationals.

The data shows that so far a total of 2,870 firearms were confiscated during the same period. It includes 2,589 handguns, 58 light weapons, 32 airsoft, 112 replicas, nine unknown types and 70 explosives and other ordnance.

The implementation of the gun ban will take effect until the end of the election period on June 11. Robina Asido/DMS
