The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Thursday that show cause orders will be issued against nine candidates including Manila mayoral candidates Francisco Domogoso commonly known as Isko Moreno and Sam Verzosa and Caloocan Mayor Dale Malapitan to explain alleged vote-buying activities.
According to the Comelec's Committee on Kontra Bigay, Moreno violated by handing out P3,000 to public school teachers while Verzosa gave goods with his name "SV". Malapitan gave P3,225 cash in Galino Covered Court.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia earlier said at the Kapihan sa Manila Prince Hotel on Wednesday that the Committee on Kontra Bigay will issue show cause orders to around 123 poll bets.
"Thirty five (show cause order) were issued of the 123, the assessment of others is ongoing", Garcia told The Daily Manila Shimbun in a Viber message.
The nine candidates are expected to respond through submitting a written explanation why they should not be disqualified and charged with election offenses within a non-extensible period of three days from receipt.
Earlier, Comelec issued show cause orders for Senatorial candidate and Las Pinas City Representative Camille Villar due to alleged vote buying activities in Imus, Cavite and to eight candidates. Marie Manalili/DMS
