The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Monday once again postponed the rehabilitation of Metro Manila's main highway, the 23.8-kilometer Epifanio delos Santos Avenue also known as Edsa after the midterm polls in May.
Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan said in a radio interview the Edsa rehabilitation will start ''maybe after the (May 12) elections.''
The Edsa rehabilitation was supposed to be scheduled during Holy Week.
''We are also preparing for the ASEAN meeting, so anyway I think we can start maybe after the elections", Bonoan said.
Bonoan said that the rehabilitation may start on May 15, three days after the midterm polls.
"What we'll do for now is install detour bridges both in southbound and northbound lanes then maybe once the ASEAN meeting concludes, we'll finish the structures", he added.
Public Works and Highways National Capital Region Director Lorie Malaluan said last March that the rehabilitation of the northbound segment of Edsa is expected to be finished in six months while the southbound lane will take up to a year and six months. Marie Manalili/DMS
