Imee Marcos exits from Alyansa as she loses ground in survey

Re-electionist Senator Imee Marcos announced her departure from the Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas lineup of her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

In a Facebook post released on Wednesday afternoon, Marcos claimed that the administration ‘has taken steps that do not align with her beliefs and principles.’

“Because of this, I cannot campaign and stand on one stage with other Alyansa bets. Like I said since the start of the campaign, I will continue being an independent [candidate],” Marcos said in her statement.

Earlier in day, Social Weather Stations said in its March senatorial survey that Marcos lost five percentage points from the February survey to tie for 16th-17th places with former Senator Bam Aquino. She is eight percentage points behind three bets who are tied for 12th place.

Re-electionist Senator Bong Go and ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Erwin Tulfo are tied for first place in the the SWS poll.

Marcos had skipped the Alyansa sorties in Tacloban City, Trece Martires, Cavite, and Laguna prior to her announcement.

She was not mentioned by her brother in his endorsement speech during Alyansa’s campaign rally in Laguna last Saturday.

The senator said in an interview during her solo campaign in Caloocan City and Pasig City on Sunday that she and her brother, President Marcos, have not been speaking for some time.

“Honestly, it’s okay because honestly, I am focused on the (International Criminal Court) case and the hearing and what our findings will be because our country’s sovereignty is tied there. I think that’s more scary than elections, campaigns, or politics,” Marcos explained. Yzabela Velez-White/DMS
