Ajinomoto Philippines Corp. (APC) unveiled a campaign on Monday to boost the company's use of clean energy and reduce its environmental footprint
APC Group President Koichi Ozaki introduced Ajinomoto Shared Value (ASV), which aims to reduce the company’s environmental footprint by 50 percent and extend the healthy life expectancy of 1 billion people by 2030.
''Our ASV signifies our role.. beyond providing Filipinos with key products that enhance taste in our food-- it highlights our commitment to environmental stewardship,'' said Ozaki.
“We are committed to nourishing communities while advancing sustainability for a better future,” Ozaki added.
APC Group Chief Sustainability Office Ernie Carlos said two factories in Bulacan and Cebu are being powered by renewable energy through its partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions.
Carlos highlighted in his keynote speech the five pillars of APC sustainability: conscious sourcing, climate action, collaborative development, circular economy, and conscientious nutrition, with initiatives focused on waste reduction, food sustainability, and clean energy.
“Through the ASV, we are committed not just to reducing our environmental footprint, but also actively regenerating the environment and improving the communities we serve,” Carlos said.
The APC group is also addressing food loss and industrial waste through upcycling residual food waste into animal feed, the Too Good to Waste initiative that utilizes parts of food usually set aside as scraps, and donating edible food waste to food advocacy group Scholars of Sustenance.
Ajinomoto also partnered with the Quezon City government in their SariCycle program, where sari-sari store owners are encouraged to trade plastic waste for points which can be used to redeem Ajinomoto products, with plans to expand the project to other areas in Metro Manila. Yzabela Velez-White/DMS
