Senate President Francis Escudero III said that Senator Ronald Dela Rosa can stay within the premises of the Senate in case a warrant of arrest will be issued against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In a press briefing on Monday, Escudero said Dela Rosa can stay within the Senate until he exhausts his legal remedies.
"It's not based on the law, but rather on what is called institutional courtesy. The Senate will not allow arrest of any members inside the Senate, especially when there is a session", Escudero said.
Escudero said that policemen are still not allowed to arrest senators inside the Senate even if there is no session.
"It's not for me to stop Senator Bato to go here as it is his call. But I think the limit is until there will be a clear decision issued by the court about his judicial remedies that is part of his rights not only as a senator but also as a private individual", Escudero said. Marie Manalili/DMS
