Damage from "Urduja" surpasses a billion pesos: NDRRMC

The National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said damage from Tropical Storm "Urduja" have surpassed a billion pesos.

In its report on Thursday, NDRRMC has recorded a total of P1,067,335,921.02 worth of damage to infrastructure and agriculture in the Bicol Region, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Davao region and Mimaropa.

The report shows damage to infrastructure was estimated at P 569,720,000 while P497,615,921.02 were logged for agriculture.

A total of 10,779 houses were damaged in the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas and Caraga, of which 2,762 were destroyed and 8,017 partially damaged.

The NDRRMC is still verifying reports about 46 people missing and 45 deaths because of "Urduja" while its latest bulletin the death of two individuals in Biliran and Surigao del Norte.

The number of affected families reached 317,215 or 1,244,583 persons. The NDRRMC report said 23,436 families or 101,686 persons were displaced and a total of 11,447 families or 52,142 persons were being served inside 225 evacuation centers.

Romina Marasigan, NDRRMC spokesperson, said the council remains on red alert status due to a storm that has entered the country.

She said forced evacuation will be implemented in landslides and flood prone areas affected by the new storm. Robina Asido/DMS
