A survey showed that a majority of Filipinos were against the filing of the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Social Weather Stations (SWS) said 42 percent of respondents disagreed on the filing of the impeachment complaint against the vice president while 32 percent agreed.
SWS added that 59 percent of adult Filipinos were aware of the impeachment complaint but 41 percent learnt about it during the interview.
SWS said that 44 percent of Filipinos believe that the Senate, which received the impeachment complaint from the House of Representatives on Feb 5., is ''deliberately delaying the start of the impeachment trial, compared to the 25 percent who do not believe.''
The House filed the impeachment complaint against Duterte for culpable violation of the Constitution, use of her office's confidential funds and other allegations.
Malacanang on Wednesday said it will respect public sentiment on the impeachment complaints.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the remark amid the results in the SWS survey.
"Whatever the sentiments of the people, we will respect that," she said in Filipino in a press briefing. DMS
