Makeshift bus terminals found by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) operating illegally in Pasay and EDSA Malibay will be closed after the Holy Week.
In a TV interview on Tuesday, Transportation Secretary Vivencio Dizon said he has informed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to close these terminals, as these are "illegal and do not follow the standards of the bus terminals".
Dizon also said they saw a bad situation of the Filipino passengers in Philtranco and other bus companies after the inspection last Monday.
"It is really hot, monoblocs (chairs) and electric fans cannot even be provided by these companies. The comfort room, I do not know if we can call it a comfort room," Dizon said.
Aside from Philtranco, the DOTr also found Mega Bus, Ten Ten, and RMB Bus Companies operating illegal makeshift terminals, as stated in their press statement.
DOTr will let operations of these terminals pass this Holy Week, as "it is pitiful for the Filipino passengers who bought bus tickets at a regular fare".
"It is hard and pitiful for our fellow countrymen if they cannot travel (because of this), therefore, this week, for our countrymen, we will let this pass, but right next week, we will close all of these," Dizon said. Kate Christian Ravelo/DMS
