Four 40-foot container vans which allegedly contained smuggled goods were intercepted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Thursday.
Armed with five search warrants from a Manila court, the CIDG seized the vehicles at warehouses in the cities of Paranaque and Valenzuela, and Bocaue, Bulacan.
CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said they received information from the Office of the Special Envoy on Transnational Crimes that container vans carrying misdeclared, undervalued and misclassified goods were being brought out of the Port of Manila.
An inventory of the items is ongoing.
Two container vans were opened in front of the CIDG’s main office in Camp Crame. One van was declared to contain rubber bags but when police opened it, items such as electric fans were found.
Torre said they have the names of the consignees but he declined to reveal their names as an investigation is ongoing. DMS
