Senate President Francis Escudero rejected the motion of the House of Representatives' Prosecution team to issue a summons against Vice President Sara Duterte to answer the Articles of Impeachment.
At the Kapihan sa Manila Bay briefing on Wednesday, Escudero said that it cannot be done as the Senate is still "not in session. They should know about that".
“I will not do anything that is illegal unless a special session is called which I doubt and it will not emanate from me for sure,” he said.
On Tuesday, House Minority Leader and 4Ps Partylist Rep. Marcelino Libanan, on behalf of the prosecution team,
filed a motion before the Senate to issue a writ of summons to Duterte directing her to comment on the Articles of Impeachment against her within a non-extendible period of 10 days.
"I hope that instead of rushing, they should use the time to study, prepare, (and) gather all the evidences that they will need so that they can present their case orderly not just for the impeachment court but also for the public as it will be a public hearing", Escudero added. Marie Manalili/DMS
