President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has signed a law postponing the parliamentary elections at the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao from May 12 to October 13.
The Palace informed the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on February 20 that Marcos approved the bill last February 19.
Speaking at the poll body's head office, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said: ''I was informed by Malacanang earlier that the President already signed the bill postponing the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections from May to October of this year."
"This means that we will have another election to be conducted separately," he added.
Garcia said the Comelec is waiting for a copy of the signed law before altering their preparations for the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections.
He said the Comelec needs to know certain provisions, such as source of the funding, what to do with the parliamentary seats previously assigned to Sulu, and matters regarding procurement of election paraphernalia to be used. DMS
