The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) welcomed the United States commitment to help the country beef up its intelligence capability.

“Of course any assistance (will help), especially in terms of technology or added training is a welcome activity,” AFP Chief of Staff General Benjamin Madrigal Jr., told reporters in Camp Aguinaldo Tuesday.

Col. Noel Detoyato, AFP public affairs chief, said the military always welcomes help from allies.

"Any help from our allies is always welcome especially that we have a common enemy, (the) global terrorism," he said.

Detoyato stressed the importance of support and cooperation of the public on government's fight against terrorism.

"In the fight to acquire the most relevant, timely and accurate actionable information, technology which money can buy and training which consume funds, the human factor is an indispensable source,” he said.

“So the support of the populace is of paramount importance in the fight against terrorism," he added.

Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo had announced that the United States has promised to provide P300 million to beef up the country's intelligence capability.

Panelo noted that the US commitment to support the intelligence capability of the country shows its strong alliance with Philippines. Robina Asido/DMS
