Palace says petitioners can file charges vs Marcoses, others over 'premature' Marcos burial

Malacanang said on Sunday that petitioners against the surreptitious burial of late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani can file charges against the Marcos family, the military and the policemen.

"Those who will file charges have the right to do so," said Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar in a text message to media.

Lawyer Edre Olalia, president of the National Union People's Lawyers, vowed to file a motion to cite "in contempt/show cause" against the Marcos family, the military and the police on Monday.

According to him, they committed "bad faith and premature execution of a decision that has yet to become final and executory."

The Supreme Court, in a vote of 9-5, earlier ruled that there was nothing unconstitutional from the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to allow Marcos' burial at LNMB.

Olalia, co-counsel for petitioners former Bayan Muna Representatives Neri Colmenares and Satur Ocampo, said they have 15 days or until November 26 to file a motion for reconsideration on the high court's November 8 decision.

He said his group received the official decision on November 11.

Marcos' burial prompted different groups to launch protest rallies in different parts of the country. They vowed to continue with the demonstrations.

The Philippine National Police, however, has said that protesters could only gather at freedom parks and not at the historic Edsa Shrine in Quezon City where the 1986 People Power Revolution to oust Marcos from office was held.

"Protesters can exercise their freedom to assemble," Andanar said. DMS
