Baguio mayor dismayed over inability of police to solve killings

BAGUIO CITY -- Mayor Mauricio Domogan said Wednesday he is dismayed over the failure of police to solve the killings in different parts of the city after the Duterte administration its aggressive anti-drug campaign in July.

“The recent killings in the city is one of the negative effects and downside of the government’s anti-drug campaign and law enforcers must pinpoint motives of the murder of certain individuals in the guise of them being alleged drug pushers or users,” said Domogan.

“We are disappointed over the failure of our local police force to come out with timely findings on the motive behind the series of killings,” Domogan said.

Most of the two dozen drug-related killings in the city were allegedly done by assassins and only a small number were as a result of police operations.

Domogan said the relief of Baguio City ’s police chief, Senior Superintendent George Daskeo two weeks ago, did not solve these killings. The current city chief is Senior Superintendent Ramir Saculles.

On Saturday morning, a 51-year old Korean trader died while his live-in partner was hurt after an unnamed gunman shot them at Upper Pinget .

Citizens expressed alarm over the series of killings where one of the victims was beheaded inside his home. Twenty-two deaths have been recorded by authorities, but only six were the result of police operations.

Domogan requested the national police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the National Bureau of Investigation and the police Regional Intelligence Office to help city police identify the killers and thwart future incidents.

He urged the Baguio police to intensify its intelligence operations to stop threats to the city’s peace and order.DMS
