Five people, including four children, died when a fire razed a residential area in Tayabas City, Quezon province on Saturday night.

Bureau of Fire Protection Region 4-A Director Senior Superintendent Sergio Soriano said the victims aged 3 to 28 years old.

A fire marshal at Tayabas Fire Station said the fire broke out at 10pm in one of the houses in Greenheights Subdivision, Brgy. Lalo, and was declared fire out after two hours.

Authorities were still investigating the cause of fire, which destroyed six houses, mostly made of light materials.

At least eight families were also left homeless and the estimated cost of damage to property was pegged at P150,000. Ella Dionisio/DMS
