A 42-year-old Japanese engineer was victimized by a robbery suspect inside a rented house in the province of Laguna over the weekend.
In a phone interview with the Daily Manila Shimbun, Laguna police confirmed that the incident happened inside the company rented house located at Barangay Don Jose in Sta Rosa, Laguna around 2:30 am.
The Japanese victim from Saitama City was reportedly staying in the country for a month for a company visit when the incident happened last Saturday.
Based on initial investigation the suspect wearing black shirt and black face mask managed to enter from the backdoor of the ground floor of the house where the Japanese victim and his other Japanese friend were staying.
"The ground floor of the house has a back door that can easily be opened using (ATM) card, it can easily open by swiping the card into the door knob, then the suspect also broke the screen door to enter the house," the police said.
"When the suspect arrived at the second floor the door of the Japanese victim was not locked but the door of his friend's room was locked so the suspect was able to enter his room. He was sleeping and when he felt that someone was moving inside his room he woke up and screamed upon seeing the suspect, then the suspect ran away with his things," he added.
The items stolen from the Japanese victim include one company owned Toshiba laptop worth P 57,000.00, a wallet containing 100 Japanese yen, a passport, a cellular phone iPhone SE 3 worth P 27,000.00, credit cards, bank card and a health insurance card.
