Duterte says all senator-judges in her impeachment trial should be given benefit of doubt

2025/6/16 英字

Vice President Sara Duterte said that all of the senator-judges in her looming impeachment trial should be given the benefit of doubt following news that some senators will be inhibited based on alleged bias.

"Maybe we should give the benefit of doubt to all senators when it comes to their work and being faithful in their role as senator judges", Duterte said in an interview with News5 on Saturday night.

Duterte said a lot of senators , even those who criticize her, will be inhibited from participating in the impeachment trial if it will be based solely on being biased.

"If biased senators will be inhibited then we will also inhibit a lot of them like Senator Risa Hontiveros who said in her public speech that 'the Duterte family must be destroyed', Senator Chiz Escudero, (and) Senator (Koko) Pimentel who said that (I'm) unhinged", Duterte said.

"So if that's our basis, many should be inhibited, but what we should do is give our trust to all of them that they will do their job as senators and judges honestly", Duterte added.

The Senate, sitting an impeachment court, issued a writ of summons against Vice President Sara Duterte on June 11 a day after its motion to remand the articles of impeachment to the House of Representatives. It is expected to last until June 21.Marie Manalili/DMS
