Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli Remolona said Friday it is ''looking at slower growth'' for the Philippine economy this year.
In an interview with Money Talks, Remolona said: ''there is risk that we will see lower growth than before. i would say 5.2 (percent) but not less than that. We are still hoping for six (percent).''
Asked about chances that the government's lower end of the growth target at six percent can still be met, Remolona replied: ''We will look at the data some more but we can't say at this point. there is too much uncertainty to be more definite about the growth rate.''
The Philippine economy grew 5.6 percent in 2024 from 5.5 percent in 2023.
On Thursday, Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Frederick Go said based on estimates from the National Economic and Development Authority, effect of the Trump tariffs would be ''0.1 percent effect on our GDP.''DMS
