Vice President Sara Duterte said there are "very limited" options on bringing back former President Rodrigo Duterte to the country following his arrest on March 11 due to a warrant of arrest from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In a press briefing on Thursday, Duterte said she has yet to divulge the possible options as the government is "working with the ICC" to ensure that the former President stays in detention in The Hague.
"So we'll just look for other options on how to bring back our former President and he expressed that already as well because he said that he will become mayor. He needs to go back home because he needs to serve the people of Davao City", Duterte told reporters.
"The options are very limited right now but there are options I just cannot discuss because the Philippine government is working with the ICC in making sure that the (former) President stays in detention", she added.
Another lawyer who could be a part of the legal team of the former president will be interviewed by the Vice President.
"Later tonight another lawyer will arrive so I need to ... interview that person so that I can add that person to the legal team ", Duterte said.
Nicholas Kaufman had been named lead counsel of the Duterte legal team.
The Vice President has yet to say when she will return to the country despite a suggestion from a government spokesperson for her to come back to perform her duties. Marie Manalili/DMS
