Military to support civilian-led mission to WPS

The Philippine military is ready to support the third civilian-led supply mission to the West Philippine Sea, a Navy officer said after the Atin Ito Coalition announced its plan to sail again in May.

"The Philippine Navy, the armed forces, and other government agencies are always ready to support them in their endeavors and to provide assistance, if and when necessary," Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, Philippine Navy spokesman for the West Philippines Sea, said in a press conference in Manila on Tuesday,

Trinidad said the "armed forces welcomes all civic groups that would like to show support in the stand of the government in the West Philippine Sea".

"Actions like these, like a group sail, the third organized by this particular group, is very much welcome provided that they get the right coordination with the appropriate government agency," he said.

"In the event that this would coincide with the different patrol plans, then it would be good to have them at the same time, on the same day," he added.

When asked if the civilian-led supply mission would cause further tension in the West Philippine Sea, Trinidad noted that the tensions "are not the result of the actions of the armed forces" but "the result of a foreign player who would like to control not only the West Philippine Sea, but the South China Sea"

"Our goal is to serve the peace and security of the West Philippine Sea," he said.

The third civilian-led supply mission to the West Philippine Sea of Atin Ito Coalition is set to be held on May 25.

The mission which will include "Peace and Solidarity Sea Concert" to symbolize the country's cultural assertion of its "sovereignty, rights as a nation, and territorial integrity" will also be participated by renowned Filipino like Noel Cabangon and an all-women rock group Rouge together with Fumiya Sankai, a Japanese artists.
