The impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte may begin on July 30, the proposed timetable of the Senate showed on Thursday.
In a press briefing, Senate President Francis Escudero said that a letter with the attached proposed calendar of procedures was sent to senators, Duterte, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Escudero said the proposed calendar of activities of the impeachment will be "discussed and decided" once session resumes in June.
"The presentation of evidence will begin on July 30 if the majority agrees on it", Escudero told reporters.
"We decided to put it into writing and make it formal to give time for the complaints that may be filed before the Supreme Court so that when it (impeachment trial) begins it will be continuous", Escudero added.
Escudero said the Senate impeachment court will convene twice under the 19th Congress and 20th Congress.
On June 3, the presentation of the articles of impeachment will take place. It will be followed by the oath-taking of the incumbent Senator in order for them to issue a summons the following day.
An issuance of summons will take place on June 4.
The pre-trial of the impeachment will take place from June 24 to July 25. On July 28, the inaugural session of the Senate of the 20th Congress and the oath-taking of the newly-elected senators. Marie Manalili/DMS
