A vessel rammed a Philippine wooden fishing boat at vicinity of waters off Spratly Islands in the evening of January 30, with a Vietnamese cargo ship recovering five last February 16 in the waters of Vietnam, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Thursday.
Three others from the fishing vessel Prince Elmo 2 are missing and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) are trying to find them.
In a PCG statement, BRP Boracay "has aided the five fishermen onboard of FBCA Prince Elmo 2 in the vicinity off Corregidor Island yesterday, 19 February 2025".
The rescued fishermen were brought on Wednesday morning to the Coast Guard Sub-station Naic in Cavite and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Naic.
MV Dong An rescued the five fishermen at 3:15 pm on February 16 in the waters off Vietnam, PCG said. The Vietnamese cargo vessel searched the area for the three missing fishermen but saw no signs of them.
Senator Francis Tolentino, who chairs the committee condemned the incident.
"I hope our authorities can find them. I also support the efforts of the PCG to track down the culprit, and for the government to take appropriate actions," Tolentino added. Marie Manalili/DMS
