The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said that it halted the printing of the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election ballots for the 2025 midterm poll.
In a radio interview on Sunday, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said that they did this following the bicameral conference committee's passing of a bill moving the polls in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) from May 12, 2025 to October 13, 2025.
"We halted the printing of the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election Ballot as there is a high possibility that the enrolled bill will be signed into law", Garcia said.
"And if that's the case ... the question is if we need to open another filing of candidacy or the names of those who filed their candidacy should only be included in the ballot", Garcia added.
The Palace has yet to sign the bill into law.
Garcia said that the printing of ballots for the national and local elections in BARMM continues.
The Comelec has printed around 32 million ballots, 42 percent of the needed ballots for the national elections in May. The printing of the 68 million ballots is expected to be completed by April 14. Marie Manalili/DMS
