Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald Dela Rosa on Tuesday berated his fellow officers over a news report quoting unnamed police officials slamming the government's war on drugs.

Dela Rosa, during a command conference in Camp Crame, challenged police who have problems with the Duterte administration's anti-drug campaign to show themselves instead of telling media about their doubts.

"The officers who are saying this, if they have the balls, they should talk to me," a fuming Dela Rosa said.

"Talk to me. Don't do that in the media," he said. "This is just not conduct unbecoming of an officer but also insubordination."

Dela Rosa was combative when reporters asked him about the story.

"That is the problem, you write a story but you don't mention the name of the source. You are just destroying the goal of the President," Dela Rosa said.

Dela Rosa was irked over an article over Reuters news agency where a senior law

enforcement officer slammed President Rodrigo Duterte's "arbitrary" figures on the number of Filipinos have put pressure on police and government officials to produce results.

The officer pointed out authorities are expected to produce at least 1.8 million drug surrenderers to match the number of three million cited by the Dangerous Drug Board

Meanwhile, more than a hundred policemen tested positive for illegal drug use, Crime Lab Director Aurelio Trampe told reporters in Camp Crame.

In a press conference, Trampe said as of October a total of 167 uniformed police personnel were found positive for illegal drug use based on nationwide tests they have conducted since January. Emmanuel Tupas, Robina Asido/DMS
