Makati police makes strides with Smart City project
Makati City police have made significant progress with its Smart City project, its spokesperson said Monday.
“We have a common system in Makati City wherein it can identify the location of mobile cars and motorcycles,” Makati Police Public Information Officer Capt. Jenibeth Artista said in an interview with The Daily Manila Shimbun.
“The Makati PNP already made two significant steps: the usage of body-worn cameras and then we installed a GPS (Global Positioning System) in our mobile cars and motorcycles.”
Artista said 20 units of Yamaha Nmax motorcycles have built-in compact locators would detect if a crime incident is happening so cops could quickly respond.
In a previous press release, the Makati City police explained that a gateway would be set up throughout the city and “allow the Station Tactical Operations Center to monitor and dispatch the closest patrol units promptly”.
According to Artista, they are expecting mobile cars to transition from using gasoline to being hybrid and electric models by next year.
“Our mobile cars will become hybrid. A SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) van is expected to arrive from another country. So from gasoline mobile cars, we would be now using electric cars,” she said.
Makati police said this initiative is linked to the Makati local government unit’s smart city and digitalization project.
“The installation of the compact trackers further solidifies the Makati PNP's commitment to using technology for safer communities and quicker responses to ensure the well-being of all residents,” it said. Jaspearl Tan/DMS
