Eight injured as they jump off burning MRT-3 train; Sumitomo apologizes
A train of the MRT-3 Line caught fire at Guadalupe Station Saturday night, resulting in injuries for eight passengers.
They sustained minor bruises in their arms and legs when they jumped off the train to the mainline tracks, MRT-3 said in a statement.
The fire took place at 9:12 pm. The fire brigade arrived at 9:31 pm and at 9:42 pm, technicians were able to uncouple the other two cars from the defective car. At 9:51, the defective car '' was declared clear from fire'', MRT-3 said.
Sumitomo Corp., the maintenance provider of MRT-3, said it ''expresses our sincerest apologies for our esteemed passengers, most especially to those who have incurred minor injuries.''
It said the fire took place at the ''last car of the North bound train after leaving Buendia station.''
''We are currently conducting the investigation with the MRT-3 management to identify the root cause of this incident, and taking counter measures to ensure the safety of MRT-3 operation,'' said Sumitomo.
Sunday's MRT-3 service resumed with 17 trains running. DMS
