Senate survey leader Tulfo files candidacy
Broadcaster Raffy Tulfo, the surprise leader in Pulse Asia's senatorial survey, filed his certificate of candidacy for the Senate Saturday before the Commission on Elections on Saturday.
Tulfo, who bid goodbye to his viewers on TV5 Idol in Action, said he is campaigning to fight for the downtrodden.
''Often I hear people say, the law is not fair,'' said Tulfo, who is running as an independent. ''We should not allow this to happen. As we recall the late President Ramon Magsaysay saying,' those who have less in life should have more in law.''
''That is why I am here,'' said Tulfo, facing reporters in stage inside the tent of a hotel serving as temporary Comelec headquarters.
Tulfo topped the Pulse Asia survey released this week for senators, with 55.2 percent ahead of former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano's 53.6, Catanduanes Gov. Francis Escudero 47.9 percent, Manila Mayor Francisco ''Isko Moreno'' Domagoso's 42.3 percent and Senator Manny Pacquiao with 42.2 percent.
In his YouTube Channel, Tulfo has at least 21 million subscribers, whom he hopes will vote for him.
''There are limitations in what I can do to help people as a broadcaster. This is the chance for me to do more for our people,'' he added. DMS
