Filipinos “trapped”near church in Italy call for help after quake
Filipinos trapped near a church in central Italy are asking for help from the Italian government after a magnitude 6.6 quake struck on Sunday.
“We are trapped. We are currently in the parking area. We have nowhere to go,’ said Rosemarie Marasigan in a radio interview. She said the church and a wall in Norcia collapsed after the quake and they were not able to escape.
“Together with other Filipinos who are affected by the quake, we are calling on the government to rescue us,” she said.
“We can feel aftershocks. We are cold and are getting sick,” she added.
Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose and the Philippine Embassy in Italy said they have no reports of casualties.
There are around 230,000 Filipinos in Italy, the Department of Foreign Affairs said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
