The leftist rebels should police their own ranks against illegal activities
The leftist rebels should police their own ranks against illegal activities, such as extortion, following the breakthrough reached by the government and the National Democratic Front during the formal peace talks in Oslo, Norway, Malacanang said on Sunday.
In an interview over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan, Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar said the Palace welcomes all the agreements reached during the first round of negotiation under the Duterte administration.
He noted the indefinite unilateral ceasefire that the NDF, the political wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army, declared after the conclusion of the formal talks from August 22-26, reciprocating the unilateral truce declared by President Rodrigo Duterte.
"So with the other activities, purportedly done by the CPP-NPA-NDF, it's up to their ranks to manage their activities, which are against our law," he said.
The NPA, the armed wing of the CPP-NDF, is known for collecting so-called "revolutionary taxes" from different businesses. The government calls this collection as extortion.
The government and the NDF have agreed to work also for a bilateral truce. DMS
