Shorter La Nina expected
Philippine state weather forecasters expect the La Nina phenomenon to be short, weakening around January or February 2017.
Analiza Solis, a senior weather speclalist, said a weak La Nina condition may develop in next few months. The weather bureau said there was a 55-60 percent chance La Nina will develop by September to October.
“We have started a La Nina watch since May and expected that it will weaken around January to February next year,” Solis said.
She warned the public to not underestimate a weak La Nina as rains could bring floods and landslides.
