Duterte may visit Malaysia this month
President Rodrigo Duterte may visit Malaysia later this month, his first foreign trip since he assumed office on June 30.
Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar said the "suggested dates" for Duterte's trip to Kuala Lumpur will be between August 23 and 30.
"No definite idea yet. It is a visit," Andanar said when asked of the agenda and if it would be a state visit.
In a press conference at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after arriving from Malaysia , Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza said during his call on Prime Minister Najib Razak, the latter "welcomed the planned visit soon to Malaysia of President Duterte."
Dureza returned from Malaysia after two-day talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front last week.
Malaysia is the facilitator in the peace process between the government and MILF.
Andanar said there were also discussions for Duterte to visit other ASEAN countries, such as Brunei , Indonesia , and Singapore .
Duterte is likely to attend the ASEAN Meeting in Laos in September. Celerina Monte
